Just Don’t Hang Them on the Clothesline

November 11th 2008 14:06
The Double O Thong!

Women’s undergarments are going in a very new direction. In fact, they are actually embracing a trend that was common decades ago. The trend is now turning away from lacy, sexy underwear, even g-strings, in favour of figure flattering (or should I say flattening) undergarments.

In a move to use undergarments as figure deceiving devices, manufacturers of women’s underwear are now reverting to styles worn in previous generations. Women’s underwear and lingerie has taken a different turn. It is no longer designed to be sexy or enticing but figure flattering and probably uncomfortable.

But when have women balked at being uncomfortable for the sake of image. This new trend in women’s underwear reminds me so much of the girdles my mother used to wear – so unflattering and so, so uncomfortable.

But hey, if they can allow you to squeeze into that dress in the wardrobe that you have been dying to fit in to but haven’t been able to for a few years now, well maybe this new idea of women’s undergarments isn’t such a bad idea.

More people see you dressed than undressed anyway. A word of caution though - you may have a little trouble breathing and you have to buy them so tight as you can possibly stand them, because that is the whole idea.

This tip from a female friend of mine – don’t let your husband/partner see them and don’t whatever you do hang them on the clothesline!

Apparenly this trend is really taking off. I read it in newspapers recently and tonight they even did a whole big segment on it on that great cultural program "Today Tonight" (Channel 7).

It's not only the average female, models are getting right into it. It laves the whole "Flat Stomach Ads" for dead!

Do you guys have a show in Oz called Mad Men? It's a show about the corporate world back around the early 60's. I've never watched it but it's supposed to be pretty good and I read an article about a return to those fashions and undergarments. One leads to the other. I wonder if there's a parallel.

oh i believe you Janet, and i have also seen the trend creeping into the underwear sections of department stores . . . it probably has alot to do with the style of womens fashion reverting back to dresses with empire wastes and other unflattering styles for those with a naturally rounded belly

hi James,
i havent seen or heard of Mad Men in Australia myself, but it might be on cable or something . . . not sure

I don't understand. I see that they are for flattening the belly, but why the hole for the buttocks? How does that help the cause? Hmmm...interesting...

James: I haven't heard of Mad Men either. I will keep a look out for it. Thanks for the visit.

Tracy: I wondered about the hole for the bum too. Pehaps there some sort of method of pushing the flab from the front and taking it to the back to make the buttocks rounder?

Thanks for the comment.

But what if the buttocks were already well-rounded? Wouldn't the flab just end up protruding in a different direction?

I guess at least it's harder to see if you have a big bum than a big tum..

The Double O Thong looks very commode-friendly.

I can see it being popular with female bloggers.

The Double O thong.

OH boy. I wouldn't be able to take myself seriously if I wore that.

That's a part of my body I don't like having draughts near.

What a co-incidence!

While sorting through the junk mail this morning - came across something for a fella calling himself Dr Rae - a rather buff looking bloke - purportedly selling a new range of lift me up, hold me in but show me off type under garments.

Alluring . . .

Be still my beating heart.

I thought the point of G-strings was to avoid a visible panty (sic) line? That double O monstrosity would be visible under pretty much everything.

Well look a new line of contraceptives! Good God, that would be more effective than a chastity belt.

I actually kinda like the pull everything in slipdress; comfy, makes your clothes look flattering and just looks like a tight slip really. Although I could imagine if you squeezed into one a size smaller than you should to get more of a flattening effect you would end up looking like a sausage with bulgy bits everywhere!

That double O thing is positively scary looking.

Hi Janet, I want to thank you, firstly, for pointing out this unfortunate and ugly turn in women's undergarment design and, secondly, for allowing us to learn that Morgan Bell wears no underwear.

Thanks everyone!

Tracy: I was wondering about the technology of it too. Maybe these underwear technologists know something we don't. And yes, it's not really a spot on me I'd like to subject to cold draughts!

LHM: Yes, very friendly indeed!

Neems: Too right. I wouldn't be able to take myself candidly (or confidently) in these.

MNG: I knew this wouldn't really be enough to turn you off!

Ruby: Yes, I have been trying to work it out too - how do they actually work. Interesting.

Cheryl: These pair certainly look like something that could control any population boom. Definitely.

Your comments everyone are very much appeciated. Thanks.

and, secondly, for allowing us to learn that Morgan Bell wears no underwear

haha oh no, all my secrets revealed . . . can i clarify and say "in the privacy of my own home"? or is my reputation well and truly down the gurgler?

hey im sure you wouldnt put a tight piece of elastic around your your chest all day if you didnt have to?

but as a rule you always need to wear clean underwear when you go out . . . just incase you get hit by a bus!

Chris, it is very amazing the things we learn of people from their comments and Morgan is such an open and honest person so she doesn't hold back.

Yes, we all learned something today. Thanks Morgan.

Hmm..., maybe the designer thought that the butts also need to breathe as we did!

As a result, they've invented this type of double O thong undies lol

Comment by Cheryl J

November 13th 2008 09:33
But then Wilson, they've covered up the little bit in the middle with the thong that some people speak out of. I'm talking about myself of course, just read any of my posts!

Morgan go put some knickers on! And watch out for buses, they'll aim at you now.

Wilson

Your technical mind probably gives you more of an understanding how oher technical minds work. Ah yes, more breathing for the buttocks - but cold and airy at the same time, lol.

Thank you for visiting.

Janet,

Im just trying to picture the visible panty line of those things, under your sheer basic black dress?

It cant be a good look?

Comment by Janet Collins

November 13th 2008 10:47
Hey Lilla,

The whole article was really about the trend in reviving those undergarments that pull you in everywhere. This one was just an exaggerated example of one of them.

I had no idea so any people would be intrested in this and I have no idea what the designer's intention was about.

It certainly calls for more research!

Thank you for visiting and commenting.
