Women with POWER

January 19th 2007 13:29
When Veronica Mars said "that sounds like a matter for the police", I began to think. The blonde bombshell covers everything from theft to blackmail. If she expanded Mars Investigations, she might even conduct large-scale espionage. Whilst her existence in the real world is questionable (please don't shatter my dreams) I haven't seen such strength and integrity in anyone else - real or otherwise.

Veronica Mars - She so hood
I haven't seen a better tennis talent than Roger Federer, yet I can appreciate the glamour and the on-court maturity of Nicole Vaidisova. In 7 years, she may prove to better Federer. Women and men possess different qualities - there can be no comparison and there is every chance that the speed and dexterity of a woman can match the strength of a man.

I think we underestimate the talents of Catwoman, Wonderwoman, Batgirl and Supergirl ( was there a supergirl? I'm sure I didn't make that one up...). And we tend to have high expectations of masculinity. Has anyone seen Big Brother? The men cry and whinge more than the women. Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl - oh man! Yes, society needs balance !

And how come we don't see any Middle Eastern hereos? I'd love to see some burqa-clad women saving lives and liberating victims. Possible film..? Anyone want to see that in cinemas?

Most sex offenders and murderers are men. Why? Psychological, emotional inadequacies? Or the irony of such shortcomings in a society where the subtext of masculinity is stability. I for one am looking forward to a future of strong, independent and none the less feminine women. Just as the "metrosexual" is the evolution of the typical caveman of the 90's.

Oh, I'm looking forward to less responsibility and a partner who can take care of me. Yep, the future looks bright for us men !

Hi AnthonyB,

Nice post. I'm all for women with power.

When I was at uni there was (and still is) huge debate whether Thelma & Louise is a feminist film. I didn't think so because when Thelma & Louise got tough, they started acting like men. Now I don't want to be a man. That's not being a feminist (in my opinion on how I see the subject - but I'm not an expert) that's becoming something we're simply not - men.

So yes, I agree. There needs to be a "metrosexual" version for women. A new take on the subject.

But AnthonyB, you're still going to have to take the rubbish out

Love & stuff
Mrs M

Thanks for posting Mrs M. I might check out Thelma and Louise. Sounds interesting. I don't think women should be men, but that's my personal opinion.

Metrosexuality seems borne from the ashes of the traditional, alpha male type characterisation of masculinity - and to consciously steer away from that is a very novel, and very significant thing. Although women are also changing, the suppression of choice and independence for females, historically, turned this change into an inevitability - as in, this is what would have happened if women had rights to begin with. The difference between the sexes here appears to be choice - men decided to become more feminine, women have always wanted to be independant.

Still, I'm not an expert and please correct me if i'm wrong. I'm hoping that by the time I marry, women will have changed enough so I don't have to put the rubbish out.

Thanks for posting Mrs M.

AnthonyB,

I think women are changing, or education is changing them and my personal observation of younger women these days is that they are learning to assert themselves in more feminine ways than the women of the original feminist movements... It is hard to display male traits of assertiveness, whilst maintaining feminine independance, but so necessary, in order for a female to continue to maintain the air of 'fun' required for women to be just that, "fun"... fine balancing act, no doubts about it.. *lol*

You seem to have it down pat, Lilla !! No doubt, strong women ( not physically, as in muscly, that's a turn off ) are very attractive.

You're right, all the strong women are fun. A kind of innocent, feminine fun. It's great, I didn't notice it before.

Thank you for your comments, they have been enlightening !

Anthony,

Can't believe I missed this post! I love it. Powerful women rock.

I agree with Lilla. These days women are much better at asserting themselve without coming across as man haters, which was always my biggest criticism of some of the early feminists. Sure, men can be dolts....but hey, you gotta love them!

And I'm pretty sure that your powerful woman will happily negotiate trash duties with you. Though I'm sure she'll drive a hard bargain.

Great work!

Thanks Kylie !!

Its great to have womanly input !! I do love the women on Orble. For the most part, because they are older. Females my age find it difficult to keep a conversation going. Especially regarding such... contentious? no... interesting !! ... issues !

I hope my WonderWoman does give me a hand with the garbo chores. I hate taking rubbish out...

Thanks for the comments, Kylie !!

Well you're in a good position. As I think I've said before, younger guys are looking better than ever to older women! : )

Thank Kylie !! Yep, I think you said that last year. You know what I find strange? Friends of mine have always had this fascination with women in their early 20s - women with a young, but more mature look about them.

That was since I was about 12 until last year. Suddenly, all my mates (hitting their 20s) seem to desire younger women. What's with that? I can't see the appeal.. Maybe it's just that thing - we're aging now and we want someone who can make us feel young again. Weird.. I don't know..

Cheers!!
