Should I go on to wireless – Next G?
December 18th 2008 13:03
I am putting out a call to all the techno wizards because I have a dilemma. I have a computer that is five years old and so, when I got it, it was top of the pile. But now?
The last four weeks or so I have continually been shut down, logged off, or whatever when I have tried to log on to orble or many other sites. I thought it was my old computer in need of either serious attention or just replacement.
Today, I received a call from my internet provider offering me wireless connection (Next G) and ensuring me that this would provide me with faster internet access, etc .etc.
Immediately I thought “has my provider made it difficult for me over the last month or so?” Is the issue really my computer or is there some benefit really in what they are trying to provide?
I have unlimited broadband access but, of late, this doesn’t seemed to have helped me. I attributed this to my old computer. Just after the phone call,. I thought “have they stalled me for another sales pitch?”
If anyone in the technical knowledge area can let me know how wireless can be superior to cable, I would appreciate it. A few years back a friend advised me that cable was better than wireless. Now, I just don’t know.
Should I go to “wireless”?
I’d love to hear your opinion on this.

I am sure someone with a bit of background on cable -v- wireless will come through unless of course they have all knocked off for Christmas.

Wireless you get speeds of 550 kbps to 3000 & cable standard is upto 8000kbps and upto 30,000 on extreme cable plans, however are you sure you are not on ADSL broadband which goes through the home landline? It is the most common. With ADSL the standard bigpond speed is 256 & if this is a case then wireless is faster. Adsl is more reliable and you can increase your speed.
Bottom line is to only go wireless if you have a laptop & want portability or you can't get anything else.
