Wildside - A Great Australain Drama
March 26th 2009 21:11
The ABC is doing re-runs of Wildside at the moment if anyone is up late enough to catch it. I caught it last night and was reminded how powerful the series was. Why did this great drama disappear? So too, did many of the fine actors from the show.
This was a series that really got me in many years ago. The reason for its demise was because it just didn’t sell overseas. Having said that, it lasted for quite a few seasons here but they just couldn't fund it eventually because the overseas market just wasn't taking it up.
It is a really brilliant series that has all the elements of conflict. One of the main characters is a cop played by Tony Martin. Other great actors in the series are Rachel Blake and Aaron Pederson.
Tony Martin’s girlfriend in the whole episode (played by Rachel Blake) is a social worker and hates cops. This causes a lot of conflict both in the personal relationship and the official one. The whole series was excellent with great scripts and brilliant actors.
I never understood how this great drama series never made it overseas. It had everything in it - conflict, drama, good characters and great stories and scripts were the making of this great serial for television.
Why is it then, that television such as good as this doesn’t get a look in oversees, which is why some of these brilliant series fold? Not only that it had great actors and the whole series kept you on the edge of your seat. They all end up being on very late night television. Such a waste.

Does it still hold up?
Thanks for the head's up . . . I must try and wrest the remote from the clutches of those in the family engrossed in House/Gilmore Girls/ER
Stay well

Yes, it does still hold up. It's much better than a lot of the current police dramas. Pity that it's on so late at night....still on the ABC.

I really loved it. I've never heard of Law of the Land but I don't watch much television these days so I sometimes miss things all together!

I enjoyed it immensely the first time around and was actually very disappointed that they couldn't find the money to continue it. So the repeats are a great thing.
Glad you enjoyed it.
