Finally, a film with Deppth

Sweeney Todd isn't your everyday, garden variety film - but without the gore, it's just like American Beauty and thrice as entertaining. To look at the brighter side, the 2007 flick appears to be a tale of love, romance, companionship - a collage of life in British suburbia. Without giving too much away, the film quite naturally conveys an an elderly pair - almost adorably elderly - working together to create, not just bake, some of the nation's most delicious pies. It's an honest living. But what made those pies so good, to prompt a statement like this: "There was about them a flavour never surpassed and rarely equaled; the paste was of the most delicate construction, and impregnated with the aroma of delicious gravy that defied description"? Fresh, tender human meat. The film doesn't explain exactly how long the meat may have been stored for, but it is implied that the pies were always fresh.
The legacy of one of England's most infamous murders lives on in film, this being the third film adaption. In addition to the 1928, 1936 and now 2007 films, Sweeny Todd has been a television programme in '82, '98 and '01 and has been adapted to countless stage plays spanning over a century. Dare I say it - yes, it's been done to death.
But this film really comes into its own, so don't expect a snappy little amalgamation of Saw and Pleasantville. Due to such an 'elegant' storyline, the only problem was casting: and it's been executed to perfection starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Todd's (Johnny Depp) rival barber and Helen Bonham Carter as the pie lady. Be cautioned, though - the film may be cursed.. Johnny Depp was reportedly "throwing his weight around" and "making cut-throat gestures with a real razor blade" on the set of Pinewood Studios (according to Mx, Wednesday). It may just be method acting. It may the curse of Sweeney Todd. You'll kill yourself if you miss this one.
Note: There has been some controversy regarding the film's origins. Some claim it happened, some researchers suggest otherwise. Great story though.
In the meantime, read the full story at The Crime Library and check out the reviews.

Yeah, it's brilliant Kylie ! I always thought Sweeney Todd was a true story, but its a fantastic plot anyhow.
No worries Peg. I think it could have turned out better, but I couldn't find a way to make the HOT stand out more against the yelllow and red background. Fantastic blog though. I'm glad your finally getting some recognition.
Thanks guys, for all your comments!

Film & TV on DVD
Most enticing of all, it that Sweeney Todd will be Directed by Tim Burton! (BeetleJuice, Ed Wood, sleepy Hollow)
This one has potential, Im a big fan of the original story and Depp should really sink his teeth into the role of Todd.
Keep up the good work.
