Rain ? In MELBOURNE ? You're kidding me !
March 30th 2007 06:18
After a long break from blogging, (a change of residence - which is a circus by the way, don't try it - I had no active phone line ) I started to gain some perspective on the world. All of a sudden, I had plenty of blog topics and nowhere to write them (other than paper, which is SO last century).
But during a long, unseasonable - for melbourne at least - drought, I noticed that rain has suddenly become something alien, and feared ! A short stroll from transport to Uni found me caught in something of a drizzle, but it's stiff reception was unprecedented. You'd think people would be happy, but it seems that everyone has forgotten what rain looks, and feels, like.
A few first-years ( they had to be first-years ) glanced around in bewilderment, threw their arms over their heads and ran like wounded monkeys. Some popped open umbrellas, but most - strangely enough - were like [I]"what the hell is this shit?"[i] and looked upwards to see exactly what the problem was. Maybe heaven sprung a leak.
There have been a few nice drizzles recently. It brings a smile to one's face, but it looks like the only place people will see water regularly will be on those ridiculously repetitive water saving ads. Or in Steve Brack's house. I'm sure he's got the sprinklers going 24/7.

Hope you're suitably recovered from your move! God I hate moving.
First the drought turned everyone into Nana's. Every time there was a drop of rain suddenly we were all muttering "oh, that's good for the garden", but then the rain stayed away so long that we forgot what it was!!
Hope you're well my friend!

We're doing the big move soon too. Melbourne to the Gold Coast with three children ... should be great fun.
What surprises me about the recent / ongoing rain showers sweeping across Melb are the amount of people who insist on whinging about getting wet, even though last week they were whinging about their flowers dying.
They all need to get over it, I reckon.
A.
PS I'm with you 100% on the annoying save water ads. They're played so regularly that they've lost all meaning.

I love the rain, even when i'm walking home late at night after a couple of lagers. I always feel like dancing around and kicking puddles.
Tis Grand fun.

Yeah, moving is a massive pain. Cause I'm in a place that was built just weeks before I moved in, the phone line hasn't been connected. So I haven't had my ridiculously slow dial-up for ages. Never thought I'd say it, but I miss the frequent disconnections so much.
Haha. I did notice that everyone said that. All of a sudden everybody loves gardens, when half the time people let them die. Our garden dies every couple of weeks. Neglect. Poor things. Next thing we'll see is acid rain. That won't be good for the garden. See if people at La Trobe forget what that is.
Thanks KW. It's great to have a Celebrity lover on a blog about everything non-celebrity.

Geez. How are you going to manage that ?! I hope you've got a sports sedan, rather than a volvo or something. Maybe you should start looking at a supercharger or an air intake filter to help get the car faster. You'd be in damage control at the moment.
I know, I know. Nothing is ever good enough for people. When the aliens invade, then we'll be thankful when our flowers are dying, instead of us. Dont understand why people hate rain. It's lovely. Unless everyone wears suede all the time..
Thanks for the visit Andrea and I hope your move goes well. The Gold Coast is wonderful !! And so are children, if they sleep on long journeys.

I thought you were pro-liberal. Damn your socialist antics !! I think you've spent too much time with Billy - whose pro-emo post ( might I add ) was no match for my EMOs SUCK post. Let him know, or I will let you both know. At your party thing tonight. See you there. If I can make it.

ASH !!!!
I know !! People are messed up. Did you know that water ( especially rain, that contains all those valuable minerals ) assists with weight loss and muscle growth ? Celery also helps with weight-loss. Just don't drink it as a juice.
Thanks Ashy !!! Always to a pleasure to have you visit!

Haha. That was cute. I enjoyed that little comment. Perhaps inspiration for another blog ? It reminds me of a Super NES game I am playing. When you collect certain items and it rains, a rare monster appears !!! I found that concept amusing then too.So it was great when you mentioned it.
Thanks Katyzzz !! I'm glad you like rain !

yeah water and I are friends, I drink it by the bottle load everyday. We used to drink filtered rainwater at home, sadly here we don`t have a rainwater tank so it`s filtered tap water... celery and oranges whizzed up are good to drink when you have water retention... as a guy you may not suffer with that too often LOL
good luck in the new house!

You girls are so lucky. You get to experience child birth and periods. Something I'll never have....
Thank your lucky stars Ash. Women have it great.

Rain is a blessing. Love the smell of the lawn when it happens. I also enjoy the cold weather, at times more so than autumn/spring... due to hayfever.
Keep on truckin ducklin'

Mum's Word
I haven't been to Melbourne in years but the four seasons in one day thing drove me nuts.
Even Sydney showed shades of old these last couple of weeks with hot weather followed by a storm in the afternoon. Just for those old enough to say remember when....
Enjoy the rain, the house the new found inspiration to blog.
Love & stuff

Thank you for your input ! When I was in Sydney it was mainly wet with some sun ( not much ). That was just a month ago. Thanks Mrs M. I'll enjoy blogging again !
Billy;
I am sure you are right. I do drink a lot of water and perhaps I should make a formal apology to Bracksy for that !
Thanks guys! Love the comments !
