Once Christmas comes in Australia we are all into holiday mode. Well, probably not all, but being in the southern hemisphere and having our summer at that time, pretty well a lot of the population are on leave or at least on a “go slow”.
The problem with that is that it generates a deadline for just about everything for Christmas Eve and that isn’t much fun for most of us. Everything has to be done before Christmas, no matter how big the task.
Why is it then, that most things have to be done BEFORE Christmas? If everyone is going to be away for most of January then no-one will really notice will they if a really big task or project doesn’t meet the December 24 deadline?
It does strike me sometimes that we put too much pressure on ourselves and each other by introducing these deadlines that really often make no sense. If time doesn’t really permit us to finish something before Christmas, then why can't it wait?
It really seems quite mad to me that we all put these pressures on ourselves and others when there seems to be no rational reason to do so. The world isn’t going to fall apart if what we are doing isn’t done BEFORE Christmas so why, oh why do we have this ridiculous deadline mentality.
After all, this is supposed to be the “silly season” and while we have so many other things to do such as organizing family get togethers, buying presents, getting things ready for guests or just preparing a party, we should be enjoying it.
Maybe we could just change it to a February deadline. It is not as if anyone is ever going to really notice.
