What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

December 30th 2008 21:10

If you are one to make New Year resolutions what will this year’s one be?

Here is a list of the most common:

Giving up the fags

Smoking habits have always been a big hit in the new year resolution board. Usually those who do commit to this, smoke themselves silly before midnight hits and find it hard in the days afterwards (if they last that long) to kick the habit entirely.

Swearing off alcohol

This one never lasts in my experience. Many who have sworn to this usually stick to the resolution for a very short time in my experience. Even a week without over indulging has to do some good. It never lasts though.

Getting Fit

Many of us start on new exercise programs – maybe a daily early morning fast walk or actually using that exercise equipment we got for Christmas. I dear say, so much exercise equipment – barely used – ends up in the trading post columns. I have had some success in embarking on a regular morning walk at this time of year and actually getting quite addicted to it. Try it.

Going on a Diet

Every year there is a new way to diet and lose weight. My best bet is abstinence but for those who want the newest craze in dieting there are lots to choose from. There is the lemon detox diet, the no carb diet or the total detox program to name a few. I prefer to just say “no” rather than put myself under some sort of alien diet program.

Get a New Job

How many of us really want this every new year? Well, this may be a bit harder this year when most of us are clinging on to our jobs anyway. I dare say this one will be the least popular this year. Better the devil you know!

Learning Something New

If you have never learned to dance or to sing, why not think about it for next year? Or if that isn’t really how you would like to go next year, why not think about a course in writing, computers or something you haven’t delved into before, like a language. There are plenty of courses on offer and you can do them reasonably cheaply. Just think, you can probably add something to your profile like talking Japanese or Spanish!

Getting to Know Your Loved Ones

Many of us take for granted our loved ones – you know, the ones who would throw themselves in front of a truck that was about to run over us. These are the ones who will run to our aid when we are sick, run down, out on our luck and will even share our good times too. But how we disregard them! Maybe the New Year is a time we should really think about that and what they really are to us.

Happy New Year to Everyone.

May all your wishes come true in 2009 and may you make good resolutions and stick to them.
