The New Year's REVOLUTION

December 22nd 2006 08:28
The Revolution has caught in Russia.
Gear up, cause Christmas is just days away and January 1st isn't far behind. Many will have already made their New Year's resolution - and for most it will be a fitness wish.

It's been at least 12 months since your last daring promise and it all started so well. The motivation was there, you abstained from all the alcohol and chocolate remaining from the Christmas gatherings innumerable, but something wasn't quite right. You gave up. But this year will be different. This year, you're sticking to your guns. This year, you will all stick to your guns.

STEP ONE: You want to look better, feel better or live longer. So set the goals and make them specific. Pencil it in, then cement it in ink or etch it into your skin. It doesn't matter where you write it, just make sure you keep it accessible. Set a time frame, set a target. (i.e. run 5km in an hour, twice a week)

STEP TWO:It sounds stupid, but why do you want to be fit? Why will you run 5km in an hour, twice a week? Because it will help shed those extra kilos and that means you'll have the hottest body next summer! Write that down. On the fridge or bedroom wall would be ideal. But remember to state the reason for achieving your goal! You'll stay on course if you need it, rather than want it.

STEP THREE: This is the most important step ! REMEMBER THIS CLEARLY. You need to keep it very consistent. Run/jog what you can in an hour, but don't stop moving and don't cut the time short. Set aside that time and NEVER eat into it. Eventually, it'll be a very desirable habit.

If you can, keep it fun. Mix it up. Change your surroundings, change your MP3 player's songs around. Run with a friend, run during lunch breaks. It's important to keep motivated. Of course, it doesn't matter what your resolution is: a new job, a raise, weight loss etc. The principles remain the same.

GOOD LUCK and remember: You're not doing it alone. This time, it's a New Year's REVOLUTION !!

Good advice, Anthony.

Yes, becoming more fit is my goal for 2007. There's a neighbourhood gym I will probably join soon. They offer personal training at no extra charge.

What are you doing for New Year's?
I'm going to a fancy dinner party. Should be fun...how often do you get to dress up these days?

Have a very Merry Christmas!

from your Canadian friend,

Peg

Well if I'm gonna give up chocolate, somebody better cancel the Easter bunny. Because I have tried in the past, but the little bugger always gets me.

Love & stuff

And it doesn't help that the easter eggs hit stores 3 months early.

I hope you have fun, Peg, at your New Year's dress-up! I tried to organise a house, but it wasn't a goer. Looks like I'll be stuck at Melbourne's " Waterfront City " for the celebrations. Oh well.

Thanks for the comments !!
