Trading Bread for Friends !

April 2nd 2007 04:03
As an almost fitting tribute to Fawlty Towers, a male robber stole some bread and shot his female accomplice. But, being the true romantic he is, the man fled the scene carrying his darling lady's bullet-riddled, blood-tainted body ( well, one bullet ).

Charlie Chaplin - slapstick artist
The thieves didn't intend to steal bread - they wanted a whole lot of cash, but were less than delighted to find fresh, wholesome bread. When they attempted to take the actual money from the two Restaurant owners, the male thief got a little excited and shot his lady friend, while " SKYLARKING " with a loaded weapon. That's right, skylarking! The all-encompassing term befitting of any death, suicide or murder.

Whilst horrible and disgusting, it does raise some questions: How much is a loaf of bread worth exactly? if you need to feed your starving family, is it worth the mother of your children? And what is a price of some good slapstick comedy ? This would have been hilarious if Charlie Chaplin had have done it.

I'm guessing this is the one I heard about this morning - where he found the manager standing near the safe in the office with a bag in his hand, assumed it was money and made him hand it over, not knowing it contained bread rolls.

I hadn't heard about the accomplice.

Well lets see katyzzz, I can only speak for myself, but at Bakers Delight it's $2.80 for one loaf and $2.50 each if you buy 2 or more.
A bag of 8 rolls, which is probably similar to what this guy ran off with, is worth $2.50 at BD.

Thanks Melissa, in view of that information I may well have to rethink my position.

Thanks Melissa, Katyzzz, Mrs M.

It is an amazing story. From what I know, our bread costs $3.00 or so. We buy Helgas. Is it Helgas? In our household it is. I'm sure this guy didn't get Helgas, but freshly baked, restaurant style bread. Very nice. I would have been very pleased with it. Almost as good as money.

You guys have a think about what you'd do and get back to me. This a hot topic, because everyone needs to eat. Thanks guys. Love the comments.

Hi A

When I heard this story on the news yesterday I did have a little chuckle to myself. Especially considering what could have happened if he'd shot an innocent bystander instead of his accomplice.

What is the world coming to when even a criminal makes such a bizarre mistake.

Catch you soon.
A.

Putting it like that Anthony I'm inclined to say that it very well could have been Baker's Delight bread as they bake a lot of breads for restaurants - gee, have I given away my secret identity - MelissaA by day, Dough Girl by night! ; )

Andrea;

Dust is flying out of my keyboard. I haven't had this computer set up for weeks, and I'm excited now that's up and running again !! All this dust though...

I was just astounded when I heard. How could anyone be so stupid as to shoot their own partner in crime. Surely you'd be wary with a loaded weapon, but apparently not so. He left with egg on his face, so to speak, carrying his wounded damsel and a couple of bread sticks to show for it.

Amazing.

Thanks Andrea !!

MellissaA:

Dough Girl. hey ?Do you work in a bakery ? OH you do !! Cool beans. Do you ? Please tell me. I have a friend who works for Muffin Break, that's not very exciting. I can't imagine Muffin Break would be any good. I'm not a muffin man. It's the MUFFIN MAN !! heh heh. The talking gingerbread. Ahh.. happy times... happy times...

Let me know if you remember that movie and can tell me the title. I believe it may be Shrek, but am not sure...But anyway, it probably was Baker's Delight bread. They sure as well wouldn't buy from Brumby's.. Unless you work at Brumby's... in which case, I love it !!

Thanks for the visits guys !!

Anthony,

I almost drove off the road when I heard this story on the news on the radio that morning. Firstly, who were these robbers....dumb and dumber??

But the guy didn't just leave his female partner there, he took her off with him. Oh, what a man.....it fills my heart with joy and makes me wish I could find me such a fine upstanding man! Ok....so maybe not.

Great work as always

Andrea;

Cool, I knew it was Shrek !!

Ash;

Well, Ash, he is dreamy. A real knight in shining armour. And it's not as though he's without money either. If you ever get short on cash, he'll be sure to nick some. So if you think about it, it's WIN WIN !!!

Thanks Ashy !

Kylie W;

There is no shortage of nutters in this world. It's a fact we all must live with. I was a more honorable act than I was expecting, though do you reckon he took her to hide her body or did he rush her to the hospital ? We'll never know. He may have just been hiding evidence and here I am singing his praises.

See what forgiveness and belief in the human race does to us ? I'm turning into a juror !

Thanks for the visit, KW

LOL - sorry it took me so long to get back to you Anthony!
Yes, my secret identity's out! Baker's Delight Dough Girl, Blog Girl and Sucker-For-Punishment Girl (Uni all over again) all rolled into one!

I like Muffin break too though - bit pricey though, and yes, everyone else was correct on the Shrek bit. : )
