The five victims of the "Ipswitch Ripper"
The five women all had striking similarities - they were all prostitutes, some were friends and they all showed the same signs of crack and heroin abuse. Each of the women worked in Levington's red light district.
In 1888 an unidentified serial killer labelled Jack the Ripper murdered five prostitutes in Whitechapel. It's unclear whether the current murderer is motivated by the infamous crime nearly 12 decades old.
The largest similarity between the two killers is the time-frame in which they were killed. Whilst most serial killers wait up to months between murders, the 1888 Ripper spanned his killings over 13 weeks, and the media-dubbed "Ipswitch Ripper", reportedly, took just days between murders.
The 1888 killer, however, went to extraordinary lengths to make his murders as obscene as possible. It is reported that the women were disembowelled, garnished with their instines and their breasts removed.
In January, Jack the Ripper was voted the 'worst Briton' of the last 1,000 years. Of 5000 people polled, the obscene killer took 24% of votes.
