A day of Victory...
December 9th 2006 06:01
Friday, the 8th of December will go down in history (well, I'll remember it) as a day many battles were won, and many demons banished. Yesterday was certainly a day to remember. It all began at Reuters.UK
5:12 AM GMT: CHRISTCHURCH
Reuters comes up with the second update for the second day of the opening test cricket match. New Zealand knocked 16 wickets to place Sri Lanka in some seriously deep water, the sharks of defeat nipping at their heels and bats.
4:20 PM AEST: SYDNEY
The Sydney Morning Herald happily reported George Gregan, Rugby Union superstar, has won the Rygby Medal for Excellence - topping the history charts as the only player to accumulate three. What a popular guy. He knocked off NSW hooker Adam Freier and Queensland flanker David Croft. Then again, he is the Wallaby captain.
4:26 PM (approx) AEST: HAWAII
Andy Irons' victory in the first Vans Triple Crown of Surfing event in Haleiwa takes him to the top of the tournament and coupled with his 3rd place finish in O'Neills World Cup of Surfing leaves him 5th on Foster's ASP World Tour Rankings. He's a homegrown Hawaiian too! Global Surf News has the full report.
9:19 PM AEST: MELBOURNE
- when the Melbourne / Sydney rivalry was locked at 0-0, - it was all but written in the history books - Melbourne had this one. Thought the Victory were heralded by The Age as Australia's first soccer superteam, the game all but delivered. A crowd of 50,333 watched the draw of the century for a nation struggling to promote the game. Sitting 13 points above A-League champions, Sydney, a tie game was virtually a win. This is INTENSITY!
For a day filled with dizzying highs and some real world lows, Friday was certainly a day to remember. Mark it this: A DAY OF VICTORY!
