Obesity and Government Intervention
May 15th 2009 21:27
The obesity issue is hotting up somewhat lately. In Massachusetts in the US they are embarking on restaurant labelling rules that require fast-food outlets to actually list how many calories are in the food they sell.
Why aren’t they just enforced to do what the cigarette companies have been obligated to do for a while now. They could just put warning signs on the packaging.
It goes without saying that fast food is fattening for you and we all really know that if we indulge in this sort of food it’s not for the sake of staying slim. So why do governments think that they have to tell us so, every time we eat it?
We are all obese, drink too much, smoke too much and have too much fun. What are our governments doing about it? Giving us warning signs, that’s what.
We know that smoking causes cancer and a lot of other things. We know that drinking too much causes liver cancer and other illnesses and we know that eating too much junk food makes us fat or even obese.
Tell us something we don’t know.

i think its a good idea to have the calories listed on all food products, it makes it so much easier for people who are trying to diet, and creates greater awareness and transparency

I suppose you have a point. I just think if you choose something like a McDonalds meal you wouldn't be watching your weight anyway.
