Eyebrow Vanity
September 21st 2009 07:42
Once upon a time it was difficult to convince men to dress up to go out and for some men it still is. Over some decades now, men have increasingly shown enthusiasm for looking good and even using once abhorred grooming things such as creams and lotions.
Times have changed it seems, for some at least. Debenhams department store in London now have so many men having their eyebrows, of all things, professionally groomed that they now plan to hold men-only “guybrow” nights.
None of the men I know would bother but according to Debenhams it is all because of a new treatment called “threading” that uses a cotton thread to pluck the hair from the follicle level which removes an entire row of hair at a time.
It’s all about the James Bond look eyebrow, they say, and it’s not about having an all too groomed one - just one that doesn’t resemble a mono-brow. There are even celebrity brows that many of them want to resemble including Jude Law and David Beckham. Stylvester Stallone’s eyebrows apparently are not popular because they are too groomed and woman-like.
How many Australian men would go for this trend do you think? Would any of you spend the time, have the inclination or bother to have it done? I would love to hear.

Did you never go back for seconds?
Good to hear you like to be well-groomed.
Thanks for the visit.

I do admit also to the occasional plucking now when getting ready. Just the random odd hairs that appear out of place or the newly growing forrest of my nasal cavities and OMG - hairs are even growing in my ears now. I feel like wolfman

You have a point but if some people, whether they be a man or a woman, have really bushy unattractive eyebrows, I think it is nice to have them tidied up so long as they don't go overboard.
Thanks for dropping in.

I agree. It doesn't hurt for men to groom themselves too - and understand the pain women go through as well

You have to admit though, some people are just lucky and have trimmed or groomed eyebrows naturally. They are very important for expression as well.
Thanks.

One beautician I was going to a while back was Turkish and she had learned the art of threading and, at the time, had a bit of a speciality on the procedure. They now advertise it everywhere.
She used this technique on my face and I actually found it quite painless - much better than waxing. She had apparently use this technique for years. Maybe those who are new at it aren't so skilled at minimising the pain!

I didn't know that and it is very interesting. Are Japanese men more inclined to do a lot more personal pampering and grooming than most other men?
