Desperate Housewives…Maybe you just have to watch it a few times?
A few times only over the life of the Desperate Housewives series have I tuned in to watch it…both times because it came on after something else I was watching or I accidentally fell upon it. For all the hype and the shooting of some otherwise unknown actors into international fame, I just cannot see the attraction. Maybe you have to see it a few times and really get to know the characters.
Someone told me years back that if I watched it I would love it and maybe there is something that a chance view of an episode cannot pick up. Maybe.
I saw it the other night and still can’t understand the attraction. It almost seems like the daytime soaps that have been running for years in the US and here.
When I went onto the web about it, Wikipedia suggested that the whole idea came from the movie American Beauty, a movie on middle-America that starred Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening. That movie happens to be one of my favourites and I cannot see the likeness or any similarity aside from it being about middle American housewives.
I think maybe it may be one of those series that we just have to warm up to and “get into” the characters. I don’t think I have enough time for that but obviously a lot of people do. It has been running in the US and Australia at least for years and up to its fifth (I think) series.
Some things I just don’t understand.
