Banning Short Skirts in a Brazilian University
November 10th 2009 10:53
Who would have thought a country such as Brazil would be up in arms and facing a controversy over a university student wearing a mini to class. The student, Geysi Villa Nova Arruda, was expelled for wearing a short pink dress to class. Supporters have had a field day since Arruda was kicked out of her class and used the internet to protest against the extreme measures.
Arruda, who is currently studying tourism at the Bandeirante University located in Sao Bernardo do Campo, has defended the way she dresses for class saying it makes her feel good.
The university had different ideas and says it is not all about the clothes but more about her attitude and behaviour.
The whole issue received a lot of attention following ridicule by fellow students for wearing what was deemed to be far too short a dress to university. What really seems rather absurd was that Arruda was covered in a professor’s white coat and escorted off the premises by police.
Now the Brazilian Education Ministry have given the Bandeirante University ten days to justify its position.
Seems rather extreme to me!
