Party in Brazil
February 23rd 2009 10:31
You wouldn’t have known there was a global economic crisis in Brazil this weekend. The annual carnival was as extravagant as ever with topless carnival queens, flashy costumed dancers and huge themed floats marching to thumping music down the streets of Rio de Janeiro.
Over two nights people crowded the streets to see the spectacular parade march into the city’s Sambodrome stadium.Seventy thousand people watched it all from inside the stadium, among them Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, his first attendance since becoming President in 2003.
Many, I know, just love all that bare flesh flashing around the place but judges of the competition, which is all very serious, are far more interested in the dance routines, the timing, the props and how they harmonise.
Parades are not only hosted in Rio but are all over the country. I dare say, Rio de Janeiro’s parade is probably the most spectacular.
What an extravaganza! Those Brazilians know how to party.

As I said, so much better than Australia day Lamingtons... thanks for the link, those photos are spectacular and I love how Brazilians incporporate gay and straight in such a non discriminatory way, acknowledging the party and beauty in both and all ...
Fabulous!
