Beer and Fairytales
October 15th 2009 10:02
Beer and fairytales are not usually something I would talk about in the same sentence or even associate but that's what The Jamieson Brewery together with their ad agency The Foundry have done in their latest ad campaign.
The ad for Jamieson’s Raspberry Ale under the slogan “anything but sweet” uses a fairly risqué version of the fairytale character, Snow White.
“Ho White” in the new campaign is shown in bed in a negligee, blowing smoke rings alongside the seven dwarfs who also have the new names of Randy, Filthy, Ugly, Smarmy, Freaky, Dirty and Dodgy. Some report even suggested the dwarfs in the ad are drunk.
According to The Daily Telegraph article, the Walt Disney Company is appalled at the use of the fairytale character and there is some suggestion there may have been some breach of copyright.
The ad was launched last week and reported in media and marketing magazine, B&T. The Daily Telegraph story about the friction that had generated with the Walt Disney Company went on line just after midnight this morning local time. In just over 12 hours the article had generated 76 comments and all evidence of the campaign on either sites of The Foundry or The Jamieson Brewery appear to have now mysteriously disappeared.
A novel idea for a beer ad maybe but the controversy that the campaign has generated before hardly being seen will probably reach more people that the ad campaign itself.

I thought the ad was really funny. A lot of others are far more offensive than this one.
Good to see you.
