There are plenty of Australian people or celebrities who could relegate Paris Hilton to the dustbin. So why do PR people actually bring her out here? This is something that I have never understood.

You only have to look at our own home grown gems to really put this in to perspective:


Cate Blanchette



Kate Moss


Megan Gale


And there is only a few of them.

Dammit, Janet, you made me drool on my Vegemite. If Paris Hilton is a star, Cate Blanchett is a firmament. How can anyone be so talented, so likeable and so celestially beautiful? There's something about her face that suggests you can see through it. Peter Jackson must have been so relieved when she agreed to play Galadriel: no-one else this side of Alpha Centauri could have done it.

You are right in thinking Kate Moss is English. She is. I will have to get more versed on these celebrities. I don't know who I was mixing her up with but I had thought she came from Adelaide but moved to the U.K. after becoming a top model.

Anyway, there are plenty more gorgeous Aussie babes to repace that pic. Here's just one:

I think the only reason Paris Hilton would have any appeal here is because teens worship her (in as ironic or misled a way as anywhere else), she's blonde and she's a novelty guest.

I don't necessarily think it's a PR decision to bring her here. Clearly Paris Hilton is always aware of her own image, but I don't think visits here are made under the sole conception that will become our next sweetheart.

What a great list! There is always a question mark against Naomi Watts - true she is lovely - but I didn't include her because she was actually born in England even though she grew up in Australia.
