A Dogs Day Out
August 9th 2009 11:50
I do not want to offend any dog owners in this post but I think I saw it all today when I came across a “Dogs Day Out” carnival. Because I am not a dog owner is probably the reason I have never come across this before, so I thought it was really quite funny.
It also made me realise what big business comes along with dogs. In Clontarf Reserve, in Sydney’s north there was a big event today where everyone took along their dogs for a day out.
It’s a bit like the carnivals that we went to as kids – but they were for kids. A whole schedule is put in place for dog owners to give their dogs a day out. They even had the NSW Police Dog Squad there.
I am a bit naïve when it comes to dogs because I have never had one of my own. One of the things I really notice about dog owners is that they seem to connect just because they own a dog. They may not have anything else in common but the dogs but they strike up friendships very quickly with each other.
While the owners may embark on these new friendships on these fun days, the dogs however seem to prefer a bit of banter and they are not shy of starting up a fight with another dog.
From a non-dog owner, I would like to know if it is the dog owners that enjoy these events more or is it the dogs? I didn’t really notice too many dogs having as greater time as their owners.
Just as all fairs are full of business people wanting to get business, there were a few good ones here. Nutrition for your dogs was one of them.
They used to say you can get anything in New York. I think now you can get practically anything in Sydney.

My son brought his Italian greyhound to one such park in Florida, and the dog sought out and humped every small female dog it could find. When the owners complained to the park ranger, he was asked to remove his dog from the park, never to return. His retort to the ranger and the complaining dog owners, "The sign said only friendly dogs allowed, and he was certainly acting friendly."

I used to have dogs but still occasionally frequent the parks/events with friends and their dogs. All fun

Haha! That is a really funny story. I don't think we have dog only parks here - at least I don't know of any but there are certain areas that have parks that the dog owners tend to frequent. I just thought this one was funny - it was like a fair for dogs.
Thanks for dropping in.

Yes it seemed the dog owners were having more fun that the dogs. I didn't know they had days for dogs like this one but I am not a dog owner. It just seemed funny seeing all the stalls, etc.
Thank you.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. My computer has been in for surgery - long overdue too.
I hadn't heard of this before but apparently it isn't new but when I saw it I thought it was really, really funny.
Thanks for the comment.
